Google Gemini launched week with all the discretion of a loud wet fart.
Much to the chagrin of the AI safety community, Google’s “diverse, equitable, and inclusive” product resulted in a series of side-splitting misfires. It all began when Gemini refused to generate images of white people. Greek philosophers? Black. George Washington? Black. Nazis? A diverse and inclusive groups of Africans and Asians. And on and on.
If you wanted it to generate images of white people you needed to enter a negative black stereotype. Prompt: People eating watermelon: White. People eating fried chicken: White. But if you wanted it to generate an image of a black person eating watermelon? Greek philosophers eating watermelon: Black.
It’s a prime example of “woke racism,” demonstrating that America is a systemically racist country—or in Covfefe Anon’s famous formulation: “the woke are more correct than the mainstream.”
